Carlozo & Company In The Community

Since our firm was founded back in 1989, we have always believed in the importance in “giving back” to the community, as well as to our fellow man. In that regard, we believe that helping others less fortunate, as well as signing onto worthwhile causes, is not only “the right thing to do”, but also finds meaning within the underlying theme of our MISSION STATEMENT. Listed below are a few of the non-profit organizations that we are involved with and some of the functions we have recently attended:

THE TYLER P. FICK FOUNDATION – On May 26, 2003, after a life long battle with Cystic Fibrosis, Tyler Page Suzanne Fick passed away at the age of 22. During her life, Tyler displayed a boundless will to live and an innate ability to positively affect those around her. Tyler had a particular love for her high school and dreamed of the day when she could return as an English teacher. The Tyler P. Fick Foundation (www.tylerfick.org) was created to ensure that her spirit will live on through the support of charitable initiatives that were dear to her heart; in particular they were Maryvale Preparatory School, Cystic Fibrosis, and special needs children to name a few. Tyler’s parents, Jeffrey and Page Fick, and Joe Carlozo have known each other going back to their high school days. On March 10, 2007 Carlozo & Company, P.A. together with our sister company, Master Key Financial Services, LLC brought together 30 of our family, friends, clients and staff to the first annual “Lil’ T Party” held at historic Pimlico Race Track “Hall of Fame Room”. Along with our group that attended the affair, we also donated a “Corvette Shadow Box” to the silent auction. When the night was complete, everyone that attended had a great time. The event was an outstanding success raising over $50,000 for The Foundation. C & C also serves as the CPA’s for The Foundation.

THE CARDINAL & GOLD FOOTBALL FOUNDATION – Founded in 1845, Calvert Hall College, H.S. (www.calverthall.com) is the oldest Christian Brothers School in the United States. Joe’s Dad was a teacher and coach there from the early 1960’s through the early 1970’s. Joe himself graduated from Calvert Hall in 1970 before going onto Penn State. Years later, the same halls Joe had walked as a student along side of his Dad, he walked with his son Joe, who graduated in 2004. While other schools in the Greater Baltimore vicinity have made it a practice to issue athletic scholarships in order to enhance their sports programs, Calvert Hall has not. Remarkably, Calvert Hall has never strayed from its founding principles in offering only financial assistance on a need basis to prospective student athletes, and those athletes must qualify academically. Keeping that in mind, in an effort to make the Calvert Hall football program more competitive without being like other private schools in the area offering athletic scholarships, in early 1995 Joe and his former fellow teammates organized The Cardinal & Gold Football Foundation to provide financial assistance (on a need basis) to qualified student athletes who seek to attend Calvert Hall and participate in the football program. Since its inception, The Foundation has raised over $100,000. Most recently, Joe and Sue Carlozo attended The Foundation’s annual Bull & Oyster Roast on March 24, 2007. In addition to being a founding father of Cardinal & Gold, Joe was the first President of The Foundation and C & C proudly serves as the CPA’s.

RONALD McDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF CENTRAL PA – Joe Carlozo has been working with McDonald Owner/Operators going back to 1978. One of the Owner/Operator groups we enjoy an excellent working relationship with is the group located in the “Central PA” vicinity. Each year, among other events, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA www.ronaldshousehershey.org sponsors an annual Golf Outing at the beautiful Heritage Hills Country Club in York, PA. Even though they are not golfers, Joe and Sue Carlozo once again attended the event held on May 10, 2007. In conjunction with Carlozo & Company, P.A. and Master Key Financial Services, LLC, The Carlozo’s were thrilled to donate for the silent auction, 2 season tickets (designated for Penn State Football Letterman’s Club Members) and a parking pass to Penn State’s 2007 home games (which included a much anticipated match-up with Notre Dame). Auction of the tickets alone raised over $1,000 for RMHC of Central PA. The dinner buffet and silent auction were a huge success and we were so glad to see our many Owner/Operator clients and friends from Central PA there, and happy that we could help RMHC of Central PA in their mission.

GREATER BALTIMORE CHAPTER OF THE US LACROSSE HALL OF FAME - On January 27, 2007 Joe Carlozo was given the distinguished honor of introducing Dale Kohler as a member of the Class of 2007 HOF Inductees. The event was held at The Maryland Masonic Lodge in Hunt Valley Maryland and was attended by approximately 500 lacrosse enthusiasts. Joe and Dale played both football and lacrosse together at Calvert Hall College H.S. in Towson Maryland. Although Joe went onto Penn State and Dale to Johns Hopkins, they have been friends and remained close for over 38 years.

ANNE ARUNDEL MEDICAL CENTER CANCER INFUSION CLINIC – The Corvette hobby extends well beyond what is typical for many car enthusiasts. So when our dear friend, Barry Kohan from Corvette Annapolis, called and told us that he needed sponsors for their Third Annual Car Show at The Village of Waugh Chapel Center on Sunday July 8, 2007, Carlozo & Company along with Master Key Financial Services stepped up to the plate to help out. The show benefited the Anne Arundel Medical Center Cancer Infusion Clinic. Barry told us that they were expecting over 150 “the most beautiful Corvettes and Classic Cars you have ever seen plus hundreds of spectators”. Both Joe and Sue Carlozo have participated in this show for the last 2 years and couldn’t have agreed more. The show was held from 8:00 A.M. until 2:30 P.M. and was featured in “The Baltimore Sun” July 9th edition.

MARKET VOLATILITY AND THE LONG-TERM INVESTOR – On February 7, 2008, Joe Carlozo took a little break from tax season to attend a presentation given by Dave Wisniewski and Craig Gayhardt, First Vice President - Wealth Management and Vice President - Wealth Management, respectively. Dave and Craig work out of the Lutherville MD Branch of Smith Barney and are both members of our Professional Alliance Team (PAT). Fred C. Hill, Jr. Senior Vice President - Wealth Management and Branch Manager, also gave an insightful perspective to the current economic climate we find ourselves in. The dinner meeting was held at Ruth Chris Steak House in Pikesville, MD and was attended by approximately 50 investors from various backgrounds. Enthusiastically received, the presentation focused on the current stock market conditions in a historical perspective.
